Gareth Thomas: Theatre Work 1969 (Belfast and Dublin)

After Gareth’s time at the RSC, he was offered leading roles in two plays that were being presented as a double-bill directed by the Australian Trader Faulkner. The first was The Cudgelled Cuckold, written by Alejandro Casona as an adaptation from a story in Bocaccio’s Decameron and translated from Spanish into English by Faulkner himself. The second, Black Comedy, was written by Peter Shaffer. These were such a success at Belfast’s Lyric Theatre that they then transferred to the Gate Theatre in Dublin.
